The purpose of the study was to further explore the methods that nurses use to solve ethically difficult care situations in nursing homes while the aim of this article was to present a model for nursing practice in such situations. Fourteen nurses from three nursing homes in Norway were observed and interviewed in order to discern the strategies they used to deal with ethically difficult care situations. To analyse this information, we used a constant comparative method until a grounded theory emerged. The nurses’ principal strategy was to apply earlier experiences while striving for the best outcome for the elderly patients. This article discusses this strategy and compares it to a theory of ethics called casuistry. We suggest that by using the method of experiences combined with casuistry in a more systematic way, nurses can develop acceptable solutions for difficult care situations in nursing homes.

Education is important in order to succeed in the American society. There are many different teaching tools that may be used to educate pupils in the proper and most effective way so that they will be able to succeed in this demanding society. The executions of these tools are important in order to make education efficient and safe. Two methods or tools, that are used regularly in the education are reading texts and technology. While these two methods can give lots of information, it is important to be aware of the negative views that they may have. The information from historical text will differ from author to author, and technology may have it downfalls; but overall these tools can still be used to gain knowledge and further education. So that people including myself can use them to become successful in society. These two tools, if used correctly can enhance my educational experience and help me to become a very successful nurse.

In Jane Tompkins essay “Indians”: Textualism, Morality, and the Problem of History,” Tompkins discusses the biased opinions of historical texts. As she studied the history between Native Americans and English settlers in the 17^th century, she discovers a problem with some of the authors point of view that did not exactly match her own. Richard Restak in the essay “The new brain, how the modern age is rewiring your mind,” also finds a problem with one of these tools. Through his research he finds out that technology is evolving human minds in a negative way, especially through the constant viewing of television. He states “It is now possible for [people] to view and repeat images of upsetting and alarming events as if they were actually happening before [them]” (Restak) This was proved by the behavior that a person may exhibit when exposed to horrible events on the television repeatedly. He came to the conclusion that this can put people “at an increased risk for psychological harm” ( Restak) and can actually make people become violent against others. It is easy to say that these tools are not very effective, but the effectiveness is based on how these tools are used, if they are neglected they will be of no use. The information from historical text will differ from author to author, and technology may have it downfalls; but overall these tools can still be used to gain knowledge and further education. So that people including myself can use them to become successful in society.

What is your current idea and practice regarding your personal use of technology and how are your ideas and practices related to your idea and practice of your own education?

Well technology is very effective resource but sometimes a person can get preoccupied with other forms of technology. Every day something is made to make life a little bit easier, But everything that is made is not always good. In my own experience I have started to do homework then I would get sidetracked by the different websites that I would want to visit. I know it is a lot easier to just stay in my room and do my homework but if I dont try to go to the Library and get on the Library computer nothing will get done. Tecnology is good in someways but a distraction is others.

Again, with a year of reading and writing (almost!) behind you, what is your current idea and practice regarding the role of texts, both reading and writing them, in your life and in your education?

The role of texts is very important in today’s society. When a person writes a book it helps future generations become educated with past points of view. Also each book that is written has a little bit of the authors culture in it. The role of texts is to entertain and educate people with different information. Writing them is just as important as reading them. If there was no one to write it there would nothing to read. So as a freshman I learned that in everything that I do I am going to have to get information about it myself or different points of view because if I go by what people say I will not get anywhere. Also the more information that I have the accuracy of an essay that I am writing on a certain subject will be a lot better than if I were to use one article.

After your first year at FAU, with almost a year of coursework behind you, what is your understanding of your education? What does the word mean to you? What is your education for? Knowing what you know now, after this year’s experiences, how will you proceed?

Education is something earned. A person is given a chance to get and education but it is up to them to actually take the intitive to learn. To me, education is a way to get a better future with a higher paying job and a great life. Without it a person will end up with a dead end job with no way to suceed. After this year I know that college is nothing like high school. A person cannot just study and do an essay the day before and get a good great on it. It is very hard work and it can be boring sometimes but it will be worth it in the end. Now that I know all these things I will be able to study better for tests and get better grades on all my essay but overall do better than I did in my freshman year.

” Images have become our culture’s primary purveyor of information.”

This means that most of the knowledge that we acquire today is from television, computers, and other devices that display images. This is true because it is the fastest method to convey information to millions of people at a time.

“Watching images of disaters has a much more powerful effect on our mental sability than reading about the same events.”

The mind can be a powerful thing, so when we are watching videos that shows the reality of events it can affect us mentally. On paper it may not be as graphic and have as much descriptions but it can still suggest the event; While on T.V., it show everything that has happen in a certain event like the viewer is there themselves.

“Another reason images excert such power over our brain is that they are unmediated”

When a person reads book , each sentence leads up to a next sentence, so a reader can always tell what will happen next. When watching T.V. it can be quite unpredictable especially during a horror film . It is made to catch you by surprise and scare you with disturbing images.

” Images of violence can also elicit uncharacteristic behavior”

Images to only affect a persons emotions the also affect behavior. I have know this personally to be true because I would watch a Hyperactivity show and afterwords want to go out and do something. In the case of the story it can also cause to become violent because of repetitive viewing of horrid things.

“While words on a page open us up to ideas and communication with others, images do not reveal ideas as thoroughly as words do and offer only elemental communication with others.”

This means that reading do offer people information but there is a difference between seeing information and reading about it. Writing helps us communicate problems with others but images help us to see what is actually happening to people , not just know .
